CRUDE APACHE NEWS February 2005 ...now with photos...
EROSIA
by Phil Harris

It
came, it went and what fun it was. We had a good turn-out and early
rumours suggest we may have broken even.
Audience reaction has been positive and a big well done is extended
to all involved – especially Phil who miraculously began to
walk again on the first night.
Our official photographer (Roni's mate Mark) has uploaded all the photos onto his website where they can be ordered as high quality hard copy www.hotshots-photographic.com

Erosia marked the stage debut of some fantastic new acting talent. While we hope to see Roni and Gareth on stage again real soon, Megan (below) has left us to move to the big smoke. I am reliably informed that it is not permanent and she will be visiting frequently. Best of luck Meg and stay in touch.

de
SADE
by Joanne Swan
2005 seems to be the year of writer/director debuts. The life story of the Marquis translates superbly to the stage and Jo is looking for a strong ensemble cast. The show will be performed in early May in a City Centre night spot. All will be revealed at the:
AUDITIONS
on Sunday 27th February at 2pm
at The Billy Bluelight Pub, Hall Rd.
If you would like to read the script before hand, copies are available by email from Panda. For more info contact Jo directly or to volunteer backstage, give Pete Stening a call.
da Coalition
by Will Averill
Starring Will, Tom, Andy and Sam with a welcome return to the stage for old ham (hand, surely?) Jo “lycra” Edye. The project takes the form of a soap opera and new episodes will be performed at regular intervals. The guys are seeking a venue as we speak. Requirements are: a not overly large space available in April and readily available alcohol. Give Will a buzz if you have any ideas.
Summertime
and the living is easy
by Russell J Turner
Despite the postponement of Theatre In The Parks 2005, Crude Apache will still go ahead with a Summer production. Russell J has picked up the Billy Bluelight gauntlet and will be directing a new version of that Karl Minns classic.

The tale of that lovable Norfolk rogue (pictured above) has been commissioned by South Norfolk Council and The Broads Authority – a big hooray to both! The show will open on 28th May and will be performed at 6 locations along the new Billy Bluelight path as well as our more traditional summer spots. Russ is seeking a cast of about six – he stipulates that the entire show must fit into 2 cars. Auditions will be late March/early April. Call him to express an interest.
READING
by Nicky J Turner
Those J Turner siblings. You wait all year for one and then two come along at once. Olde Cruds among you may remember our successful Read-a-thon at the Playhouse Bar in 1999. For 48 hours we read The Lord of the Rings trilogy – some have suggested Peter Jackson was inspired to re-visit the classic after a particularly boozy night in Norwich – and we raised loads of money for Crude Apache and the Year of Reading (shown below).

As they say, if you can remember those 48 hours, you probably weren't there. Ah, the heady days of the Playhouse Bar in the late nineties when nobody ever went home. Anyway, Nicky J has suggested another mega-readathon this time at The Barford Cock over the weekend of June 24th/25th. This time to raise money for Make Poverty History. There will of course be camping over and party fun but everyone will be expected to get sponsored. Favourite suggestion at the moment is to read Philip Pulman's His Dark Materials trilogy. Nicky will be in contact through the mailing list to recruit readers. Like most things, its more fun if we all do it together.
The Garage
A select group joined Keeper of the Garage Pete Stening for Operation: Secure Garage after a near vandal incident in December. The door fixing is now in the hands of Q.

From back left: Nicki “The Face” Dixon, Leighton Williams, Steven “Howlin' Mad” Raynor, Pete “I love it when a plan comes together” Stening and Panda.
New Directors
With the increase of first time directors in Crude Apache, the committee have been discussing the best way to support them. We all felt that Erosia was a massive project and there may have been ways to make the process easier for Phil. There is an excellent Guide for New Directors on the website but this needs to be backed up by practical help.
** HOT TOPIC **
How we support new directors
will be discussed at the next committee meeting.
If you have been a new director, feel that we could do more (or less) or simply have opinions on the subject, come along to the next meeting.
