If I enjoy wickedness, it shows that nature intended me to be wicked and, therefore, it would be wicked were I not to be!” So thought the Marquis de Sade who gave his name to what many pious personages have dubbed the most wicked of all sexual activities – sadism.

But what does a philosophy of that sort do to one's love life and what will one's in-laws make of it?

In a light-hearted and bawdy manner, De Sade: the descent of man follows the antics of the young Marquis as he struggles to make his way in a world ill-prepared to cope with neither the size of his ego nor the size of his libido.

A cast of 11 brave souls bring you a performance that combines elements of physical theatre, melodrama and high farce that is sometimes grotesque, sometimes poignant but always provocative.

Although the show contains no violence, nudity or swearing, the strong sexual references make it unsuitable for children under 14.

da Coalition... went exceptionally well and a big pat on the back to all those involved, especially volunteers who stepped in at the last minute on the tech side. Great performances (Edye in tights, always popular), top comedy and a catchy theme tune that I just can't get out of my head. Look out for the next two exciting installments coming soon...

da Bluelight... has been cast and is now in rehearsal. Early reports from director Russell J are very positive. Shows begin late May, running through to early July. Further details in next newsletter.

da Readathon... will go ahead on June 25th/26th to raise money for Make Poverty History and Crude Apache – half each. The book to be read will be the Northern Lights trilogy by Phillip Pulman. Russ has worked out that it would take about 36 hours so we've decided to start at 10.00am on Sat. 25th June at the Cock at Barford. The summer show will be at the Cock on the Friday evening so basically the idea is to camp out on the Friday and Saturday at the pub and party and read and eat and sunbathe etc!

Could people let Nicky Turner know if they are generally available to read during the weekend. There will probably be slots of an hour shared between 2/3 people. If you can commit yourself to a specific time, that would be great. The middle of the night would be a fantastic one to commit to! Nicky will set up a rota sheet in the next couple of weeks as well as a copy of a sponsor form for people to use. Contact her on 0780 170 2205.

da Welshman... Welsh Phil is now in the preliminary stages for putting together a show for the 200th anniversary of Nelson’s death. To be performed at the Nelson Pub and also daytime shenanigans in Anglia Square, in late October. Anyone interested in participating give Welsh Phil a shout on 0790 631 6588.

da AOB... Will Averill’s chum, Matt Hall, is offering to do publicity shots for Crude Apache. These will be free so long as he can use the ones he wants for his own portfolio. Matt is a professional sort of chap and if anyone is interested in what the standard of his photo & design skills are like, just check out one of the ace Coalition posters! Anyone interested in good quality, free photos for their show should contact Will Averill on 0779 516 0945. Use it or loose it folks…
